Hear from This Year’s Co-Presidents of the Inner Temple Racial Equality Society
“Diversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance.” – Verna Myers
Diversity is a fact. Inclusion, however, is a choice. At the Racial Equality Society, we make that choice in everything we do. We are eager to welcome new student members who are keen to engage with the diversity the Bar has to offer.
Our society provides practical tools to support members throughout their journey to the Bar, whilst also creating opportunities to build connections with fellow students and graduates as well as members of the Bar and the judiciary.
Over the past term, we have hosted a range of impactful events. Our advocacy workshop, ‘The Advocacy Lab’, held in March at the Inn, gave members the opportunity to develop their skills with leading legal professionals. In May, our online ‘Wellness First’ event brought together barristers at different stages of their careers to share honest insights on managing the pressures of Bar school, pupillage, and practice.
Members reflected positively on the events, with feedback including: ‘Thank you for organising, it was a useful and enjoyable event,’ and ‘It was a pleasure meeting everyone and I look forward to more events.’
And we are just getting started. We have exciting plans ahead, including pupillage application workshops, events celebrating South Asian heritage and Black History Month, and a range of social events designed to bring our community together.
