Dinner to the Universities

On 9 March we held our annual Dinner to the Universities event, where undergraduate students interested in a career at the Bar are invited to dine in The Inner Temple Hall alongside our members who regularly volunteer at our outreach events.

One hundred and twenty-three students. from 49 different universities attended the event, alongside 63 members of the Inn, for an evening of lively conversation and excellent, as always, food served by our exceptional catering team. Many students commented on how approachable and insightful the members in attendance were, and expressed how grateful they were for the opportunity.

“Just a very big thank you! This event was amazing for me, it provided lots of reassurance about my doubts around pursuing the Bar. It was also very inspiring to be able to speak with barristers and judges in such a welcoming environment.”

This year, we held panel discussions before the dinner to give attendees the opportunity to hear about different members’ journeys to the Bar as well as to hear key details about our scholarships process. This set students up nicely for the rest of the evening with lots of questions they could ask of their dining mates, such as why or how they chose their current area of practice.

“I think it was really valuable to have such a wide range of practitioners from judges, to the employed and self-employed Bar as well as a large number of women, diverse attendees and volunteers. It made the event feel really welcoming no matter your background.”
